Community Peace Officer Induction Program

Offered in partnership with Portage College, the 12-week Community Peace Officer Induction Program offers all of the training necessary for students to immediately obtain Level 1 Community Peace Officer designations.

Career Opportunities

A Level 1 Community Peace Officer's priorities are community safety, public education, bylaw and community standards enforcement, road safety and the protection of road infrastructure. Successful candidates will enforce community bylaws, provincial offences, arrest and release criminal code and provincial warrants, answer non-emergency calls like mischief or theft under $5,000 and may conduct collision investigations.


Training

This all-inclusive training program also provides:

  • Emergency vehicle driver training
  • Shotgun training for wildlife dispatch
  • RADAR/LiDAR training (speed measurement training)

Admission Requirements

  • 18 years of age
  • High school diploma
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Valid First Aid & CPR
  • Letters of reference
  • Cover letter explaining why you are interested in the training, along with a resume
  • Valid physical fitness test (PARE, COPAT, or A-PREP)

As part of the application process, applicants will be invited to an interview with the Law Enforcement Training Instructors.

2024 Training Courses

In partnership with Lac La Biche County, Alberta Public Safety and Emergency Services, and Portage College, two Community Peace Officer Induction Program (CPOIP) courses will be offered in 2024:

  • March 4 - May 24, 2024
  • August 19 - November 7, 2024
