Our Story
Lac La Biche County’s Law Enforcement Training Centre started in 2020 with the goal of bridging the gap between the classroom and the real world.
Our Centre was developed as a way to transform how officers learn in Alberta. Lac La Biche County and Portage College approached the idea with a goal to consolidate and fill gaps in officer training, and to fully prepare recruits for the challenges of their chosen careers.
“There’s a lot more to working in law enforcement than putting on a badge, and we make sure our students understand that and are prepared for what the world is going to throw at them.”
- Chris Clark, Director, Law Enforcement Training Centre
The Centre was publicly announced in March 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic meant delivering programs was postponed to the fall of that year. The Centre’s first Community Peace Officer Induction Program was well received, and “à la carte” courses in commercial vehicle enforcement, leadership and communication, safe firearm use and more were added to the program offerings. The dream of a centralized training facility that would serve multiple needs had become a reality.
